The Referees report also makes very good reading and can be viewed here. Some fantastic results culminated in 2 categories being won by Sunshine Coast players. Ian Oakley and Pieter Poldervaart defied the odds (and age) to beat fellow Sunshine Coast player Asif Khattak and his partner in a gruelling 5 setter, 11-7 in the 5th. In The Over 50 Doubles, Martin Tribe and his partner showed that all the practice paid off, beating the top seeds in a tight 5 setter. Sunshine Coast players also claimed 4 runners up awards. In the Restricted Doubles, Dale Fenwick and Paul Green menaced the number 2 seeds in the semi-final before just falling short in the final against the number 1 seeds. In B Grade, Noosa stalwart Peng Yu did everything but win the final, narrowly going down 11-7 in the 5th set. In the U18 Singles, Dale Fenwick, who breezed through the rounds, struck a dogged opponent in the final. Dale tried everything but went down in straight sets. 2008 Open Competition Referees Report The Sunshine Coast Table Tennis Club held an Open Competition on 15th and 16th March 2008.
