Summer 2010 Season Division 1 Player and Team ranking Division 2 Player and Team ranking Division 3 Player ranking Week 2 A GRADE Sunrise def Warana 6-5 Woombye def Bli Bli 8-3 Sippy Downs def Nambour 6-5 Yandina def Burnside 8-3 In A Grade, Brian Pearson stepped up as a reserve for Yandina to produce 2 quality wins in a clear statement to the selectors. Yandina produced an upset win over Burnside, who need to turn their season around, and quickly. Sunrise, who were asleep early in the night, pulled off a stunning come-from-behind win against Warana. They won 5 matches in a row to seal a 6-5 win. Peter Kennedy bounced back from criticism this week, with 2 stunning wins in A Grade over quality opponents. Martin Tribe and Craig Atkinson are both still struggling with form, but some improvement appears likely shortly. Paul Green, Asif Khattak, Nathan Shepherdson and Jimmy Young all had top nights and their teams had good wins. B GRADE Kuluin def Dulong 6-5 Maleny def Eudlo 7-4 In B Grade, Brian Pearson, despite playing in A Grade as well, dominated the B Grade match and is the only person still on 100%. Colin Rule's brief appearance last week in A Grade has given him the extra edge this week in B Grade, with 2 solid singles wins, in a narrow win for Kuluin. Rick Perry has returned to the game in a fine form and will push for A Grade selection next season, should he show continued improvement. C GRADE In C Grade, John Dale was on fire with 7 wins to his name, while newcomer Rod Miller also shows promise, with 5 wins. In the battle of the Pringles, Alistair succumbed to family pressure, losing to Barbara. Our resident Scottish coach, Alex continues to be available for coaching on the night. Week 1 A GRADE Yandina def Warana 7-4 Woombye def Sunrise 6-5 Sippy Downs def Bli Bli 7-4 Nambour def Burnside 6-5 In A Grade, Corey Tschirpig has come back to table tennis 3 feet taller and is struggling to adjust to the new playing position. After his first night back, he has not troubled the scorers, but beware! Asif Khattak, although arriving late for the match, rescued Woombye, who were rudderless without his fearsome leadership. Jimmy Yang struggled to keep the ball on the table, with just the one singles win. Joel Gifford is out to challenge the leader board this season, with 3 wins, 2 of which went to 5 sets. Martin Tribe and Craig Atkinson both returned out of form after long stints away from the game. Paul Green's new position as Club President has not affected his concentration and he continued his winning ways. Kevin Tschirpig can consider himself unlucky this week, after being ahead 2-0 in 2 of his singles matches, but failing to close them out. Bernadette Caldwell, Nathan Shepherdson, Terry Young and Olive McCully all won their 3 matches. B GRADE Buderim def Eudlo 8-3 Dulong def Maleny 7-4 In B Grade, with Peter's form in decline and Blake's form on the up, the Kennedys now find themselves in the same division, in the same team! Good luck this season and let's hope the "Kennedy Curse" doesn't strike! Dale Parkes' absence hurt Maleny and Brian Pearson took full advantage of this as the captain of Dulong, winning all of his matches. It was good to see Rick Perry back in the fray, with 2 good wins and Steve Rowson is starting to regain the form he showed in 2008. C GRADE Rod Miller is making a point, with 5 wins from 5, in the singles competition. Ian Smith won 4 games, only losing to Rod. Alistair and Barbara Pringle won 2 each, with Alastair continuing to get an ear bashing when he gets home after another defeat against Barbara. Isaac Shepherdson and Andrew Cobby won one single each. We hope to have many more players in C grade in coming weeks, to ensure tough competition, for B grade promotion. Our resident Scottish coach, Alex is also available for coaching on the night. |
